in connecticut is so much greater than the pleasure that shooting at targets with a 30-clip would give to target shooters. really it's a no brainer to me. and the shooter in the aurora theater had a clip with 100 rounds of ammunition. that's why he was able to shoot up that whole theater in two or three minutes. and there were military personnel in there. if he had just been -- if he had had to stop, they could have tackled him. they could have taken him out. >> the reason he didn't have to stop, governor, is because he had those hundred-round clips. and let's not forget, governor, in newtown one of those kids had 11 bullets in him. we're talking about some unbelievable things here. >> unbelievable evil. you're absolutely right. one of the points the congresswoman made and we should remember this is in aurora although the majority of the victims were adults, there were two 6-year-old and 7-year-old and there was one 6-month-old baby. 6-month-old baby that got killed. so this isn't the first time we've lost our kids. >> when does it end? >> when does it stop? >> and when is the legislative respon

of massachusetts, connecticut and the state of rhode island could look at over six inches of snow with areas possibly seeing a foot of snow. so again the chance of seeing more snow from this next storm system is increasing here. it is pulling in a lot of moisture from the gulf of mexico. that is one of the reasons why we think we could see a little more than originally anticipated. right now it is producing snow across areas in chicago, northern parts of the state of indiana that into michigan. on the southern end of the storm system we have showers and thunderstorms in louisiana, mississippi and tennessee. eventually both of these areas will be coming together and moving towards the northeast. i do quickly want to point out between these areas we're actually seeing freezing rain falling early this morning across places in arkansas and northern texas. please drive carefully out there. that is outside the city of memphis as well. western portions of state of tennessee dealing with possible icing on the roadways. otherwise a number of winter weather advisories issued for the state of new jerse

in connecticut is fresh on everybody's minds. what were your biggest stories of the year? >> it feels so obvious, but i think the presidential election has to be on the list. something that we all followed very, very closely. so much happened. the debates were obviously interesting, covering the convention. it happens once every four years. incredibly consequential. i think it says a lot about what presidential elections will look like. we learned a lot about the changing demographics of this country. >> exactly. looking forward to the inauguration coming up in the new year. i think for all of us, i think around here certainly we've covered superstorm sandy. this was such a tragic event. i mean, a storm like this has not been seen here in this -- for centuries. i think that, you know, obviously the devastating effects that it continues to have on so many areas from the rockaways to new york to connecticut and long island. i was up in the helicopter. seeing that devastation first hand, when you see the scope of it, it's just enormous. >> this year was marked by a lot of tragedy from aurora, bengh

if you have a gift or donation that you want to give to the grieving families in newtown, connecticut. hold on to them. the connecticut town is asking people to stop giving. officials say the overflow has been heart warming since the tragedy, but left 20 kids and seven adults dead, but they are overwhelmed by the volume. are they offering an alternative plan? >> generally, yes. specifically, no. you stood in the town square and you saw the teddy bears and all of the candles and the angels and many sent 26 of them because of the number of people killed. it's just too much. they're asking that instead of sending more to the town, that they donate them to organizations and the thousands of children around the cocountry that would be comforted by a teddy bear. they have a warehouse full of these teddy bears and the cards and the angels and all of the trinkets being sent in. they are walking a difficult line because they don't want to appear to be ungrateful, but they want to get back to a level of normalcy. >> what do you do with all of this? the town is not big enough to absorb that. the

that happened in newtown, connecticut, just a little more than a week ago. it was a kind of hunker down. they could have made the same statement dish they did make the same statement after earlier acts of mass violence. you know, no one is saying -- here's what bothered me. the nra spokes people have been willing to deal with every possible cause of gun violence except guns. they're right that there's a problem for a society, how do you spot a child or a person who is troubled before they become a killer? what's the influence of violence in our entertainment culture on people? it's obviously also true that the easy availability of guns including military style saum weapons and say everything is on the table. what this does mean is that the kind of new regulation of guns that president obama and vice president biden and a lot people like to see enacted early next year won't happen easily. it's a battle. the president and vice president are ready to lead the fight. it's going to take the american people getting organized, agitated, and talking to their members of congress. >> do you think

. there is a hot tempered effort from connecticut, a republican. he is really against it and threatening to filibuster. they cannot talk him out of it. robert byrd all of a sudden leaves the senate floor unannounced. he startles everybody there. he goes in to talk to him. he comes on the filibuster is over. ryker is satisfied and has had enough time to talk. that is the way they did things. i was recently -- i have the opportunity to speak at a lot of places. i have to say it is a a lot nicer here. you do not have to get on an airplane. it is nice to be here. recently i had a special occasion. i was in knoxville, tennessee. senator baker was not in good health. he is 87. he came to the program. it was a wonderful location. eight -- it was a wonderful occasion. for me, it is impossible to think about senator byrd and senator baker without thinking about our current leaders. there are contrast. senator reed and senator mcconnell did not create the hyper partisan senate. they inherited it, basically. they certainly have not done anything to reverse the situation. instead it has gotten worse
